NotherFrog's Friday

I (NotherFrog) had the unpleasant experience of being involved in an accident on I-91 in Springfield around noon today. An 18-wheeler jackknifed in the rain in front of me and I couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting the trailer. I came to a stop just after the front of the pickup slid under the back of the trailer, and the corner of the trailer poked through the windshield on the driver's side. The impact caused the airbag to deploy. My only injuries that I'm aware of are just a few scrapes from the airbag and seat belt. I declined a trip to the hospital in an ambulance. The truck driver is okay and also declined the hospital trip. Unfortunately, a fuel tanker turned over on the southbound side of I-91 around the same time that the 18-wheeler jackknifed, and that driver did not survive his injuries. There were three accidents on I-91 this morning in Hartford and Springfield that resulted in just the one death but had traffic snarled for hours. My pickup was just a small dot in the big picture of today's accidents. I'm glad my only mention in news reports was being "another vehicle" involved in the crash.

Here's a photo of the Mazda, windshield poked in, on the tow truck.

I had a cat photo ready for today, too. It's Kali, sitting in a bowl. That's a wicker cat bed to her right in the photo, but the bowl seemed like a better nap spot. She was curled up asleep in the bowl until I went for the camera.

good grief! I'm glad you are ok and have only scrapes to show for it.

How amazing that I stumbled onto this blog. I was driving down I-91 just after the accident and saw the pick-up essentially imbedded in the back of the 18-wheeler. I was wondering all the way down to NYC if the people involved in the accidents were okay. I am so glad to hear that you are! I hope that you have insurance which will replace your poor pickup.
